New Jersey's Happy Tomato
Did you know that New Jersey has had an amateur theater for eight years?
A small digression into the past, how it all began. And so, while working on the board of the NJ society ''Priedaine'', we organized Easter events for children every year and invited guests from Latvia, mostly from the Liepāja Puppet Theater. And then in 2015 we thought why not try it ourselves. And so our first performance ''The Tale of the Priedaine Carrot'' was born. The children were particularly excited by the strong hare of Priedaine (played by Anita Cirīte), who ran through the entire hall and finally dealt with the stubborn carrot of Priedaine. In almost all performances, we involved children who came to the event, who wanted to go on stage and discover their acting talent. The response from the children was great. And so we had a hook in our mouths, we started staging performances every year. We performed ''Bunny Bathhouse'', ''The Devil's Transformation'', ''The Flintstones Easter''. But now one show a year was no longer enough, everyone had a great desire to work and we started organizing small outdoor shows in the fall - sketches mostly intended for the American audience, which they received with ovations. It was not really clear what name we would like for our theater group and we simply called it NY. NJ Independent Theater. Then in 2021, Dziesma Teteris moved from California to New Jersey and also joined our theater. She suggested we change the name to something more interesting, more fun. And since the state of New Jersey is famous for growing tomatoes, it could be something related to tomatoes. That's how the name ''New Jersey's Merry Tomato'' came about at the general meeting. In 2022, our theater was admitted to PLATS and In 2023, we participated in the Diaspora Theater Festival "PLATS Solis".
Our theater group is currently staging a new play - a crime comedy, which we hope to perform in the fall of 2024. We would be very happy if people who love theater and have a desire to express themselves on stage would join our theater. We promise that there will be no shortage of fun!

San Francisco New Theatre
San Francisco New Theatre was founded in 2010 as the San Francisco Theatre Workshop. The theatre is directed by director Māra Lewis.
Repertoire : Since the founding of the theater workshop, the first performances began, when Sally Filica brought her friend Lelde Stumbre's play “Veil with Dots” from Latvia. The audience saw this production in 2011. During these 11 years, the San Francisco New Theater has staged several productions by Latvian and foreign authors: O. Bagaturija’s “King Lear in the Poorhouse” (2013), R. Blaumanis’s “From the Sweet Bottle” (2015), E. Kestner’s “Emil and the Berlin Boys” (2017), A. Brigadere’s “Sprint?” (2018). In 2020 and 2021, the Theater was active in the virtual environment: actors participated in the project “Latvian Play Readings 2020 Plus”, the Poetry Days project “Heart on the Platform”, virtual gatherings and competitions, and were also actively involved in the promotion of local Latvian cultural life, both by organizing Thanksgiving Day online and by creating a video story about Northern California Latvians in circles in the project “Latvians Everywhere. Bridge”.
In 2022, the Theatre staged the play “Anšlavs and Veronika” ( https://www.latviesi.com/attelu-galerijas/anslava-un-veronikas-sape-vai-ta-ir-ari-musos ) based on the play by Raimonds Staprāns. Alongside Tyra Zoldnere's Veronika, the other title role, Anšlav, was played by Kaspars Znotiņš, a specially invited actor from Latvia at the New Riga Theatre.
The New Theatre of San Francisco is currently working on a production of “Kēves dēls Kurbads” with Latvian director Viesturas Meikšāns. The theatre also hopes to someday present Jenna Silverman’s play “Tīrelis,” which was staged before the pandemic, although it never made it to the public.

Hollywood suitcase
The Los Angeles theater “Hollywood Suitcase” acquired its name on November 18, 2020, although Latvian theater has existed in Los Angeles since the very beginning, when exiled Latvians arrived in the city and its surroundings. Active activity began in 1951, when the Los Angeles Amateur Theater (also known as the Los Angeles Latvian Theater) was founded.
“Hollywood Suitcase” is not a theater group of one director, we will put everything in the suitcase - both the first publications and reviews, and we will become aware of our large collection of plays, which currently resides in the library of the Latvian Society of Los Angeles, we will interview former actors and create new productions and readings.
